August 22, 2020
Dear Fellow Salinians and Friends,
In the wake of this crippling pandemic we are still struggling to achieve a sense of normalcy.
The Executive Officers of the Salinas Association of San Diego, Ca Inc., held a virtual meeting today to determine the future path that the association will take while still under the grip of COVID-19.
The following important topics were discussed and decisions were made:
It was suggested by the majority that the current President, Nhel Conde, remain in office as President for the coming 60th Annual Town Fiesta 2020-2021. The Executive Officers approved the nomination; Nhel Conde accepted and it was ratified that she will continue as President.
It was our hope that we would be able to have the 59th Fiesta celebration later in the year. However, with the pandemic still raging, we realized that it would be impossible and irresponsible to even entertain the idea of having a 59th Annual Town Fiesta celebration.
Virtually we prayed the nine consecutive weekly novenas, celebrated the Holy Mass and danced the Caracol on May 24, 2020.
In today’s virtual meeting it was agreed by the Executive Officers that the actual 59th Fiesta celebration which was postponed previously has now been cancelled based on the current COVID19 situation. Should we be fortunate enough to have a Town Fiesta celebration in May, 2021, it was decided to fuse the 59th and 60th Fiesta together to appease anyone who may feel that the 59th Fiesta was not celebrated.
The President decided to combine the colors for the 60th Fiesta. The colors will be blue and white. The blue will represent the 59th Fiesta and the white will represent the 60th Fiesta, should there have been a 60th stand alone celebration.
Since we are unable to meet in large groups and had to set aside casino bus trips and other in person fundraising activities; it has been agreed upon that effective today, all Association donations, including but not limited to, the annual Salinas Scholarship Fund and the annual donation to Santa Rosario Parish in Rosario Cavite, Philippines will be suspended until further notice. Should any member choose to make a voluntary donation to either of these causes, please contact Velen Pareja the Association’s Treasurer for further instructions.
May the grace and mercy of our Heavenly Father, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and the blessings of our Mama Mary be with us always.
Let us continue to pray for a cure for and extinction of the Coronavirus!
Respectfully yours,
President Nhel Conde
